School of Freshwater Sciences
Pushing the common definition of the site, we explored the edges of the shoreline that have been manufactured over the years.
In collaboration with Architecture Landscape Urbanism (ALU) in Minneapolis, we participated in an ideas competition supported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The floating lobby, takes students, visitors, and cargo to the main building on the breakwater.
The school – an actual project put forth by UWM – will capitalize on Milwaukee’s strength in water research, we felt putting the building on the breakwater gives the project a dramatic presence, and allows the students direct access & immersion into their subject matter, while leaves room for the future expansion that will surely be required in the coming years.
The School of Freshwater Sciences would serve as beacon and a new postcard view for the City of Milwaukee.
